About Jimmy Lee Robbins

Born: James Lee Robbins in Prairie Village, KS

Instruments : Guitar, Bass, Banjo, Clarinet, Saxophone

Living in Colorado Springs , CO

Jimmy’s interest in music started when he was four years old.  His first memories of singing are remembered singing with the “Brownies”. His older sister was a member and, when his Mom would have the meetings at their house. Jimmy would join in the activities which included singing songs. He was considered their “mascot” and learned many songs.

The summer before 1st grade his father, an aspiring clarinetist, purchased Jimmy a small E-flat clarinet.  Before school started he was playing melodies without music and by the end of 1st grade he was reading music.

By the end of his freshman year in High School he showed a strong interest in guitar. His mother, who had started him in voice lessons, talked his dad into purchasing him a nylon string guitar for Christmas. Jimmy then started taking Spanish Classical guitar lessons.  He chose classical guitar to utilize his right hand for more than simply strumming.

By his junior year in High School he met up with a fellow student and they started a musical duo.  Within a couple more years the duo was performing at local events, weddings, and eventually clubs.

Jimmy has since been involved in many different groups including Top 40 Pop, Southern Gospel, Western Swing, Contemporary Christian, and Gospel Cowboy.  He is currently pursuing a solo career.

Jimmy has been supported by his loving family; a wife of 32 years, three sons, four grandchildren with another on the way, and of course his mother.  She has been a constant  supporter of his music since he was four years old.

Jimmy is currently enjoying the challenge of being a front man of his own material and own arrangements of cover tunes.  Quite a task after being a side man, backup player/ singer for over 40 years.  He is working on his first project with a local musician.  Jimmy is grateful for all the support of his best friend and musical partner of over 44 years.

At 60 years of age, Jimmy laughs at starting a musical solo career.  But he leans on the experience of over 40 years of musical performing and genuine love of music to move him forward.

Hear it from Jimmy:

"From Oct 2006 I worked with Duke Davis (Duke Davis and Buckshot), who led us for four years until Nov 2010. I played rhythm guitar and sang background harmonies with a fiddle/mandolin player who also sang harmonies. We recorded one studio album together and traveled (mostly in Texas) approximately seven months out of each year.

We also performed an acclaimed program "Westward Ho" which was 90 minutes long, containing 27 songs with dialogue between songs. All the songs were “Cowboy Songs“ from the Civil War to the present. We were fortunate to perform this program at the “Tabor Opry House“ in Leadville, Co. and I had the honor of standing on the trap door that Harry Houdini used when he performed on that stage. We also performed it in Virginia City, Nevada at the famous “Piper Opry House.“

I even had special titles bestowed upon me… # 1 “Little Britches  # 2 “Little Jimmy Tripod.“ When I went with Duke to the golf course during a day off, I was introduced as his "Spiritual Advising Body Guard." Don’t ask about the second one… it’s a bit embarrassing. Nonetheless, these terms of endearment stayed with me until this very summer. Now I have a new moniker, “Americana Guitar Slinger“ which was bestowed upon me from a TV interview.

But what’s in a name?  Well, in my case, the very essence of my persona was put into descriptive verbiage. I guess that whatever the moniker, I was never called “Late for Dinner,“ mainly because I never was! But I digress…

For the last three years I’ve been working with Barry Ward, Barry’s wife Victoria and Sue Link. We travel a lot and we all manage to get along quite well. We’ve performed in Branson, Missouri at Silver Dollar City, Boot Hill in Dodge City, Kansas and many other stops along the road just to name a few. The best part of this group, besides the great music, is that Barry always asks veterans and active military to stand and we have the privilege to honor them at every show.

Currently I am working on my own project striving to produce my first solo CD comprised of mostly instrumentals and some cover tunes.

I am blessed with excellent instruments and a supportive wife and kids and some very helpful and supportive people in my life. I am very excited to see where this adventure leads."
